What is more, he came back a month later to the ‘Tulip Bulb Auction Hall’, Spalding, this time bringing Cream, Move, Zoot Money and Pink Floyd with him! They enjoyed a “knockout atmosphere” and “soft ultraviolet lighting”. Nothing quite so exciting happened in Lincoln that year. But around the world, momentous events were unfolding… The “Summmer of Love” was terrifying small town America. Siegfried Sassoon died and Vidal Sassoon was busy cutting Mia Farrows hair. Peter Stringfellow opened the Mojo Club in Sheffield and Colour Television was just beginning. Into this unholy mix, the Lincoln City Fathers agreed to the building of a brave new concrete Palace and The Eastgate Hotel was born! Bar ’67 started life as the ‘Cul de Sac’ or the ‘Bistro’, Maria cooked and Tony waited on tables, the food was ok and the Chianti bottles made good candlesticks. Some things have changed but the wine is still good, the music is fine and we still have a “knockout atmosphere” … To book the venue or reserve a booth, call 01522 520348.
